Our 40th Season Anniversary concert will feature Mendelssohn&#8217;s  Symphony No. 2, Lobgesang, with full orchestra and special guests, The Hiram College Choir. The date is Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Magnificat Center for the Performing Arts, 20770 Hilliard Boulevard, Rocky River, Ohio 44116. Composed in 1840 to

commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Johannes Gutenberg&#8217;s movable type printing press, the Lobgesang celebrates the spread of literacy made possible by Gutenberg&#8217;s invention. Join us for a 40th Anniversary performance of this stirring and rarely performed masterwork. Tickets $15, Students free. A reception will follow. And dust off your red threads! The West Shore Chorale&#8217;s 40th Anniversary &#8220;Ruby&#8221; Celebration is coming up on Saturday May 17th at Mr. Winton&#8217;s Den, 12700 Lake avenue in Lakewood, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 and include heavy hors d&#8217;oeuvres, a carving station, wine, beer, and soft drinks. The evening will honor chorale founding member and former Lakewood Mayor, Judge Robert Lawther. A Silent Auction and Raffle for an original Broestl and Wallis Jewelers&#8217; creation will be part of the evening&#8217;s activities. We&#8217;ll also invite you to join us in a champagne toast to Judge Lawther&#8217;s contributions to the Chorale and our community. Attire is Red Tie/Dress Optional or Business Casual. <blockquote><p>Nearly 40 years ago, a group of singers banded together with the intention of performing masterworks of choral music. How well they have succeeded! They&#8217;ve had the same conductor now for some 22 years, and have expanded to include an orchestra.

Sunday evening, the new Magnificat Center for the Performing Arts in Rocky River was the venue for a concert of sacred music of Anton Bruckner, J.S. Bach and Heinrich Schutz, as performed by The West Shore Chorale &amp; Orchestra, all conducted by John Drotleff.</p></blockquote>
