Membership is open to all singers. Selection is made by audition on the basis of:

1. Musical ability
2. Experience
3. Openings available

Auditions are held during August and December and at other times of the year by special arrangement. The Chorale’s membership is limited to approximately 85 and proportioned so there is a balance among sections. Call anytime during the year if you are interested in becoming a member.

How to schedule an audition...

You can schedule an audition by calling the membership secretary, Connie Benham at 216.281.5651 (evenings).

Auditions...

An audition takes about 10 minutes. You will be asked to do the following:

1. Sing anything of your own choice...this can be a solo or part of a choral piece you have learned in the past....do some thing you know well and can feel comfortable singing. It does not have to be difficult.
2. Sightread...you will be asked to sing your part in a short choral piece while all four parts are played on the piano.
3. Vocalize

Some other things you need to know...

Rehearsal attendance is very important in the West Shore Chorale. The Chorale has a policy of no more than two absences prior to any concert.

The uniform of the Chorale is black tuxedo, white shirt, black bow tie and black shoes for men and a black floor length ensemble and black shoes for women. Obtaining the uniform is the responsibility of the member.

There is a membership fee of $20 per half year ($40 per season) that is used to buy music and offset other expenses of the Chorale. Students may have this fee waived.

Joining the Chorale implies a commitment to help in the operation of the group such as selling tickets, selling program ads, serving on committees, helping with staging, etc.

Rehearsals are held Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Center in Rocky River, at the corner of Hilliard and Wagar Roads. The first rehearsal of the season is the first Tuesday after Labor Day. The second half of the season begins the first Tuesday after New Year’s Day.

Dress rehearsals are held on the Saturday prior to a Sunday concert with the exact time announced at the beginning of the season.
